Google Sheets Add-on

Editor add-on for Google Sheets (v1.0.0)

Verify addresses without leaving your spreadsheet: two custom functions for single cells and small ranges, and a Verify selected column command that writes status, sub-status and score next to your data, using a bulk job for larger lists.

Not yet listed in the Google Workspace Marketplace. The add-on is built and awaiting Google's review. Until the listing is live, it can be installed from its source: push the Apps Script project with clasp and use Deploy → Test deployments → Editor add-on (see the package README). Contact support if you want early access.

Custom Functions

=RV_VERIFY(A2)

Returns deliverable, undeliverable, risky or unknown. Pass a range (up to 100 addresses, e.g. =RV_VERIFY(A2:A101)) to get a matching range back.

=RV_VERIFY_DETAILS(A2)

Returns one row per address: status, sub_status, score (0-100) and did_you_mean. Accepts a single column of up to 100 addresses.

  • Blank cells return an empty value; cells that are not shaped like an email return invalid_input without calling the API (no credit).
  • Custom functions have a 30-second limit in Google Sheets, hence the 100-address cap. Use the sidebar for larger lists.
  • Formulas are charged to the key of whoever evaluates them: each collaborator needs the add-on installed and their own key saved.

Verify a Selected Column

Extensions → RocketVerifier → Verify selected column writes RV Status, RV Sub-status and RV Score into the three columns to the right of the selection.

1

Select one column

A whole column like A:A is fine; it is trimmed to the last row with data. If the first selected cell is not an email it is treated as a header and the result headers are written next to it. If the three target columns already contain data, the sidebar asks before overwriting.

2

Small lists: 50 addresses or fewer

Cached addresses are written immediately; the rest are verified with POST /v1/verify, 10 in parallel.

3

Larger lists: one bulk job

The add-on creates one job with POST /v1/verify/bulk (with an Idempotency-Key), and the sidebar polls GET /v1/jobs/{id}/progress every 5 seconds. When the job completes, results are read 1,000 at a time and written into the sheet, matched by email address, so sorting the sheet meanwhile is safe. Bulk jobs take up to 100,000 unique addresses and are charged per unique address.

4

Close and resume, or cancel

The pending job is remembered per spreadsheet: reopening the sidebar resumes it. Cancel job calls DELETE /v1/jobs/{id}, which refunds unprocessed addresses.

Bulk results are mapped to the /v1/verify vocabulary (valid → deliverable, invalid/disposable → undeliverable, catch_all → unknown) and have no did_you_mean.

Caching & Credits

Every result is cached per user for 6 hours (the Apps Script CacheService maximum). Recalculating, copying formulas or re-running the column command within 6 hours does not call the API again.
unknown results are cached for 15 minutes only, because they are often transient. Errors are never cached.
Bulk results are written to the same cache, so formulas over a column you just bulk-verified are free.
The cache is per user on purpose: an add-on's shared script cache would expose one customer's results to another.

API Key & Permissions

Open Extensions → RocketVerifier → Settings and paste a key from the API Keys dashboard. It is validated with GET /v1/credits and stored in your user properties (never in the spreadsheet); the sidebar only shows a masked version. A sandbox key (rv_test_...) with @sandbox.rocketverifier.com addresses costs nothing.

OAuth scopes requested
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.currentonly read the selection, write results (open spreadsheet only)
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.external_request call https://api.rocketverifier.com (allow-listed)
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/script.container.ui menu, sidebar and alerts

The add-on creates no triggers: polling is driven by the open sidebar, which keeps the scopes this narrow.
